Brief History of Disney Stars On Parade at Disneyland Paris

The daytime show Disney Stars on Parade at Disneyland Paris premiered on March 26th, 2017 – to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Disneyland Paris. From the same point of view, this parade replaced a previous one called “Disney Magic On Parade!”, which ran from April 1st, 2012 to March 24th, 2017, to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Disneyland Paris.

The Disney Stars on Parade at Disneyland Paris takes place every day, although it is subject to last-minute changes or cancellations due to weather conditions or other major reasons. It lasts for 40 minutes (in total) and the start time depends on the time of year, but it usually starts between 4 pm and 5:30 pm.

First of all, the floats leave from Fantasyland, through a big pink gate next to the “it’s a small world” attraction. Then the parade continues to the large Central Plaza – in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle – crosses the entire Main Street and ends at the square at the entrance/exit of Disneyland Park, nicknamed Town Square.

In the Disney Stars on Parade at Disneyland Paris there are eight Disney and Pixar universes to discover, with a discovery message contained in each:

1. Mickey & Friends

Firstly, the show begins with a parade (somewhat unexpected and random) of characters from different Walt Disney movies, such as:

  • Aladdin and Genie (from “Aladdin”, 1992)
  • Alice and Mad Hatter (from “Alice in Wonderland”, 1951)
  • Pinocchio (from the homonymous movie, 1940)
  • Tigger (from “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh”, 1977)
  • Mary Poppins, Bert, and two Penguins (from “Mary Poppins”, 1965)

Then, with the message “Discover the Magic”, the first float of the parade eventually appears, with some characters dressed as explorers of the future and in a steampunk style. They are the original protagonists of the Disney universe, i.e.:

  • Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse
  • Donald and Daisy
  • Goofy and Pluto
  • Chip and Dale

Meanwhile, to the sound of the original theme “Lost in the Magic”, it’s also possible to perceive excerpts from other Disney songs, namely “A Whole New World” (from “Aladdin”, 1992) and “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” (from “Song of the South”, 1946).

2. Toy Story

The second moment of the parade evokes one of Pixar‘s most successful movie franchises: “Toy Story”. Presented by a group of dancers, dressed as cowboys and soldiers of the Green Army, the huge float is based on the idea of “Discover Friendship”.

With Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and Jessie on board, there are several children’s games and toys highlighted here, in an explosion of color and fun, which certainly will take you “to infinity and beyond”! The song that animates this scene is “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” (from “Toy Story”, 1995), which also integrates the remaining movies of the franchise.

3. The Lion King & The Jungle Book

Suddenly, we are transported to an exotic world, of savannahs and jungles. With tribal costumes, bold make-up, and inspiration from birds, flowers, and monkeys, the dancers in this number present the third Disney universe.

In a float recovered from the old “Jubilation!” parade at Tokyo Disneyland, the motto here is “Discover Adventure”. The same scene features characters from two different Disney movies:

  • Rafiki and Timon (from “The Lion King”, 1994)
  • King Louie and Mowgli (from “The Jungle Book”, 1967)

The soundtrack is also divided between the two movies, and the songs “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” (from “The Lion King”, 1994), “The Bare Necessities” (from “The Jungle Book”, 1967), and “I Wan’na Be like You (The Monkey Song)” (ditto) can be heard.

4. Peter Pan

The fourth scene of the Disney Stars on Parade at Disneyland Paris is entirely taken from the 1953 animated movie “Peter Pan”. The first characters to reveal themselves are Wendy and four Lost Boys.

Soon after that, a float was also borrowed from the “Jubilation!” parade at Tokyo Disneyland arrives. The meaning Discover Imagination, it’s divided into two parts:

  • Captain Hook and Mr. Smee, on Skull Island
  • Peter Pan and two Lost Boys, on a ship, suspended under a fantasy moon

Get ready to sing Peter Pan‘s best-known songs like “You Can Fly!”, “Following the Leader”, “The Second Star to the Right”, and “A Pirate’s Life”!

5. Finding Nemo

Inspired by the 2003 Pixar movie “Finding Nemo”, the show now announces the message “Discover A New World”. With a procession of three sea creatures, accompanied by Nemo, Martin, and Dory we are all sent to the Australian Great Barrier Reef.

The float – one of the most original of the entire parade – contains countless other characters from the movie, such as Crush and Squirt. To the sound of the main theme of the franchise, “Beyond the Sea”, the parade moves through bubbles, lots of bubbles!

6. Dragon (Maleficent)

After the water, comes the fire. The dragon that represents Maleficent is considered by many to be the real “star” of the main parade. In a steampunk style, the great feature of this float is that it sets fire!

Based on the 1959 animated movie “Sleeping Beauty”, the motto of this universe is “Discover Enchantment”. The scene begins with an epic battle between Prince Philip and three beasts.

But the evil dragon takes all the protagonism, as soon as it’s sighted. To the sound of “Battle with the Forces of Evil” (from “Sleeping Beauty”, 1959) and “Hail to the Princess Aurora” (ditto), it’s possible to see all the mechanisms of the imposing figure, which seems to come out of the imagination of Jules Verne.

7. Princesses and Princes

Fortunately, in fairy tales, there are always happy endings. Unlike the previous scenes, in this particular one there isn’t a monumental float, but three small carriages, recycled from the previous Parisian parade, “Disney Magic on Parade”!

These coaches bring three of Disney’s favorite couples, namely:

  • Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder (from “Tangled”, 2010)
  • Belle and Prince Adam (from “Beauty and the Beast”, 1991)
  • Cinderella and Prince Charming (from “Cinderella”, 1950)

At the same time, other characters from the animation classics show up, in amazing choreography, such as:

  • Aurora and the Three Fairies – Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather (from “Sleeping Beauty”, 1959)
  • Snow White and Prince (from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, 1937)
  • Ariel and Prince Eric (from “The Little Mermaid”, 1989)
  • Tiana and Prince Naveen (from “The Princess and the Frog”, 2008)

In this segment, you can listen to some of the public’s favorite songs, that as, “Someday My Prince Will Come” (from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, 1937), “I See the Light” (from “Tangled”, 2010) and “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” (from “Cinderella”, 1950).

8. Frozen

The last float of the show Disney Stars on Parade at Disneyland Paris delights the little ones. “Discover Wonder” is nothing more, nothing less than a tribute to one of Disney’s big hits: the 2013 animated movie “Frozen”.

The float is presented by Kristoff and four dancers, who represent snowflakes. Anna and Elsa follow, waving to the audience from the top of the balcony of their Ice Palace. Amid an animated remix of two of the movie’s best-known themes – “For the First Time in Forever” (from “Frozen”, 2013) and “Let It Go” (ditto), the parade ends with a lot of snow and animation.
