Nestled by the crystal-clear waters of Lake Annecy and surrounded by the Alps, its strategic location along alpine trade routes made it an important settlement during the Roman period.

The best way to visit Annecy is on a day trip from Lyon (in France) or Geneva (in Switzerland). You have two options to get there from the French and/or Swiss cities: travel by car (around 145 km or 45 km, respectively) or public transport (2 hours or 1h30 minutes by train, respectively).

However, Annecy is also an excellent stop on a road trip through the Haute-Savoie department or even the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region! In that case, I suggest exploring other destinations in the vicinity: Rumilly (20 km), Saint-Julien-en-Genevois (36 km), Annemasse (46 km), Chambéry (50 km), Cluses (53 km), Sallanches (68 km), or Thonon-les-Bains (75 km).

Basilique de la Visitation
